Leaving Reims, we drove to Paris--the last leg of our driving tour. It took about an hour to get from Reims to the edge of the Paris, and about an hour to get to the center of the city where our apartment is. Unloaded the luggage and got a parking ticket for illegal parking! Made me glad it is time to turn in the rent car!
Bak to Orly to turn in the rent car. Farewell, trusty little Opel! We logged 5800 km, or about 3500 miles on this little diesel chug-box without a flat tire or mechanical breakdown. I just hope Hertz doesn't notice the scrape on the left rear fender. Ooops! That's why we buy insurance!
A taxi from the Hertz facility at Orly to 37 Boulevard Henri IV, our home in Paris for the next 3 weeks.
Our building. Two hundred years old.
Tim at the front door of #37 Boulevard Henri IV. There is a laundry and a hair salon in our building, a grocery around the corner, a boulangerie and a boucherie in the next block, and a fleuriste two blocks down.
A bottle of wine and some fruit to toast our arrival in the City of Light. We are set!
Except for clothes. Our trusty cargo shorts and flip-flops which have served us well for 5 weeks just will not cut it in Paris. They are OK in the afternoon, but at night, we get funny looks from the Parisians. So, for Tim a haircut and some long pants. And for me, some shoes that are hopefully as easy to walk in as my Asics but with a little Paris style! This will not be a problem because we are 2 blocks from Rue Rivoli where all the shops are. This season in Paris, the focus seems to be on hair, eyewear, and shoes.
Rue de Rivoli at sunrise before the shopper hit the stores.
And after what we've been eating, we are committed to getting back to our exercise routine. Bought a 3 week membership at a gym near the Louvre and mapped out our morning walks.
Sunrise over the Seine. Four blocks from our apartment.
View from Pont du Sully. The Seine is lovely in the morning. At right, the spire of Notre Dame, and left of center in the distance, the Eiffel Tower.
Statue on the Pont de la Tournelle.
A closer shot of Notre Dame de Paris in the morning sunlight.
Back across the Seine to Rue de Rivoli.
Past the Hotel D'Ville (administrative offices for the city of Paris.) Completed the morning walk with a stop a our boulangerie for a fresh warm baguette and 2 chocolate croissants. Ahhhh. Ready for a sunny Saturday in Paris.
